To meet the needs of working teachers, Hillsborough County Hillsborough County Teachers Credit Union was chartered or also known as Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Association, Inc. After making minor changes in 1953, opened membership to teachers in Citrus, Hernando, DeSoto, Pasco and Hardee counties. Addition of more counties took place in 1960 which includes Charlotte, Sumter, Levy and Manatee counties. According to 2012 records the Suncoast had nearly $5 billion in assets and approximately 520,000 members, and 50 branches. For this Suncoast received "Lifetime Achievement Award" on March 19, 2012.
