Established in 1995, Holy Cross Institute of Management and Technology - HCIMT Calicut has been delivering quality education, training and professional certification that serves the needs of hospitality, fashion, social work and other allied sectors. The institute is owned and managed by the International Catholic Women's Religious Congregation of Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, a member Holy Cross Institute of Management and Technology - HCIMT Calicut to the registered society of Kerala. The Holy Cross Sisters Society was founded in Switzerland in 1856 by a young dynamic visionary - Fr. Theodosius Florentini OFM Cap, who was titled by the Swiss Government as teacher of the youth and a great philanthropist. Mother Maria Theresa Scherer, the co- foundress was a daring woman who had a total quality and service personality to care for the poor and work for the progress of the society. She is known as the "Mother of the poor". The motto of our congregation is "Need of the time is the will of God". The society has 987 establishments in 17 countries.
The Holy Cross Society of India has been serving the citizens of our country since 1894 in the fields of sustainable developments. The areas of our service are: Social welfare. Social service. Agricultural research- (KVK) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Health care. Empowerment of women. Hostels, Education: college, schools. Nursing college, Vocational Training etc. In works of Mercy - Orphanages, Homes for the aged, AIDS patients' rehabilitation centers. Legal aid cells. Residence for tribal students etc. Wherever the human need calls us, we reach out immediately.
This Holy Cross Educational Institute was established in 1995. At the initial stage only Diploma Courses were offered- Modern Secretarial Practice and Diploma in social work and counseling which were recognized by Govt. of India - MHRD. And in 2002 the institute of Hotel Management and Fashion Designing began with Diploma courses. In 2007-2008 Holy Cross Institute of Management and Technology - HCIMT Calicut obtained affiliation from the University of Calicut for the following courses - MSW, B.Sc. Hotel Management and Catering Science, B.Sc. Costume and Fashion Designing, and B.Com with Computer Application.
The University of Calicut, the second university to be set up in Kerala, came into being in 1968 with the objective of developing human resources in the northern districts of Kerala by extending the reach of higher education and by promoting research in all areas of development with particular emphasis on technology and art and culture of Kerala.The University made the beginning by taking into its fold the four postgraduate departments set up by the University of Kerala at Calicut and 54 constituent colleges spread across seven northern districts. With ‘Nirmaya Karmana Sree’ as it motto, the University has surmounted challenges to emerge as the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala. Its 31 post graduate departments and 304 affiliated colleges have now become a veritable light house beckoning lakhs of young men and women to benefit from higher education.The University of Calicut came into being as a result of the foresightedness of the visionary leards like C.H. Mohammed Koya, C. Achutha Menon, and K.P. Kesava Monon who are no more with us now. They realised that the Kerala University centres at Cochin and Calicut were inadequate for a balanced growth of the higher education in Kerala.
