History and Expansion
The foundation of IG Group was laid by Stuart Wheeler as
IG Index which stands for Investors Gold Index in 1974. IG Index was renamed as IG Group and started trading on London Stock Exchange. It started to offer its services in Australia in 2002 which was attributed to the lenient environment in the country for financial companies. Its move to acquire HedgeStreet, an American company was believed to set up its operations in the USA, where its services have not been authorized.
