Middle East Airlines (also abbreviated as MEA) is an air transport service provider. MEA is a part of a global air trade association, International Air Transport Association. The airline provides air transportation to national and international destinations and carries millions of passengers every year. The majority shares (99.37%) of MEA are owned by a financial service provider, Banque
DU Liban. In 2012, the airline became the 17th member of a global airline alliance SkyTeam. The airline company was formed in 1945 by a Lebanese politician Saeb Salam in collaboration with a UK based British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1965, the airline merged with Air Liban and as a result, it adopted the name Middle East Airlines.
