The king kamehameha statue was designed in the year of 1878 in front of Aliolani
Hale in Honolulu, Hawaii and it stood near
Downtown Hilo. The legislature appropriated $10,000 for this project and appointed
Gibson as a director, which initially involved local Hawaiians but soon they all were left the project and Gibson only continued this project. Gibson hired Thomas R. Gould (a
Boston sculptor) staying abroad in Florence, Italy to make the sculpture. The king kamehameha statue shows the stance of a
 Roman general with gesturing hand,
Cape and also has Roman appropriations.
