She did her schooling from Narrandera Public School and Sydney Girls High School. She studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and became a proficient Violinist. In year 1956, she completed Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) from the
University of Sydney. She worked as a

St. Vincent’s Hospital. She did post-graduation in Psychiatry. She also worked as the Chancellor of the University of Sydney.
