St.
Marylebone Workhouse was a parish workhouse established between years 1775 and 1776. The house was designed by the Architect
Alexander Allen and the house could accommodate more than one-thousand people. The building was two storey’s high comprising of the main block and the new infirmary block established in year 1792 having capacity of accommodating three-hundred patients. The buildings of the Workhouse were further expanded in year 1827 with the construction of new boy’s school. The nightly asylums were constructed in the year 1846. It was closed in the year 1965 to construct the
London Polytechnic and flats.
