Abu Walid Al-Masri whose real name is Mustafa Hamid is a journalist. He was born in Minya al-Qamh, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt in the year 1945. During the Soviet war in Afghanistan Abu Walid Al Masri or Hashim al-Makki fought as an Islamic jihad volunteer. He also worked for al-Jazeera between the years 1998-2001 as bureau chief in Afghanistan. Abu Walid was arrested in Iran and was kept under house arrest for 11 years.
