Andris Piebalgs is a politician of Latvia. He was born on 17 September 1957 in Valmiera, Latvia and is also a diplomat. Andris Piebalgs was elected as the European Commissioner for Development in 2010. He previously served as the European Commissioner for Energy (2004-2010) and is a member of European People's Party. Before starting his political career he worked as an academic and served as the Director of the Department in the Ministry of Education in Latvia.
