Arjuna Ranatunga is the former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team. He was born on 1 December 1963 in Gampaha, Dominion of Ceylon. Arjuna Ranatunga's first-class cricket debut came in 1981 and he became captain of Sri Lanka cricket team in 1988. He captained Sri Lanka for 11 years and led his team to World Cup victory in 1996. After his retirement from Cricket Arjuna Ranatunga joined politics and became Member of the Sri Lanka Parliament for Kalutara District in 2010.
