The Pakistan Army was founded on 14 August 1947. It is the land-based branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces. It is a volunteer professional fighting force. The Pakistan Army consists of over 550000 active troops and more than 500000 reserve troops. Pakistan Army has fought many wars most of them with India. Some of the notable commanders of Pakistan Army include Field Marshal Ayub Khan, General Zia-ul-haq and General Pervez Musharraf. General Raheel Sharif was appointed as the commander of Pakistan Army on 29 November 2013 following the retirement of General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
