AKG Acoustics, commonly known as AKG is one of the leading producers of microphones, headphones and other related accessories. The company is mainly based in Austria and was started in 1947 in Vienna by Dr. Rudolf Goerike. Initially, it provided few devices for cinemas such as loudspeaker and light meters. The company had expended its business and started to provide car horns, carbon capsules for telephones, cushion speakers and many others. Its first microphone was used in many radio stations and cabarets. After few years operation, the company had introduced 'Moving Coil Technology', which enables its products to operate on extended frequency.
AKG has gained worldwide popularity after the development of D12 microphone in 1953; since then, every voice transmission product is compared with it to test quality standards. D12 was the 1st cardioid microphone and provided high quality
Sonic qualities. It was subsequently updated and newer product were known as C414 and C12 microphone.
AKG is the first company to release wireless microphone, named as WMS100 and WMS900. Its other microphone models include D19c (dynamic cardioid), D130 (omnidirectional), D330 (high-end dynamic vocal), C214 (large diaphragm condenser) and C2000 (side-address). AKG was purchased by Harman International Industries in 1994. Its associate company was founded in Los Angeles in 1985. The company has established its head office in San Fernando Valley. It was rewarded with prestigious Technical Grammy award in 2010.
