Aurora College is a public college of arts and technology located in the Northwest Territories, Canada and was established thrice with the foundation of three different colleges. In 1981 as the Thebacha College, in 1984, as the Arctic College, and finally in 1995 as the Aurora College. The history of the college, as a campus-based institution, dates back to 1968 when a vocational course, the Heavy Equipment Operator course was offered at Fox Holes, just west of Fort Smith, Canada. In 1969, the training being done at Fox Holes was shifted to Fort Smith and the Adult Vocational Training Centre (AVTC) was established. In 1971, Canada Manpower/CEIC, now Human Resources and Social Development, Canada began to sponsor programs at AVTC, and the 1970s, saw the expansion of the scope of programs offered at AVTC.

In 1981, AVTC was declared a college named Thebacha College. The subsequent year, the Legislative Assembly's Special Committee Report on Education and Learning: Tradition and Change in the Northwest Territories, proposed a return to a model of program delivery at the community level. Recognizing this commitment, the Arctic College came to replace the Thebacha College 1984. Initially, the college comprised of two campuses, Fort Smith and Iqaluit, but went on to include campuses in all the regions of the Northwest Territories. In June 1992, the Government Leader announced that, as part of the government's decentralization strategy, the Yellowknife head office of Arctic College would be transferred to the communities of Fort Smith and Iqaluit in preparation for the creation of two colleges from Arctic College. On January 1, 1995, two colleges were created - Nunavut Arctic College in the Eastern Arctic, and Aurora College in the Western Arctic.

Aurora College focuses on the successful education of its students and supports the development of the Northern society through excellence in education, training and research. They have learning centers in thirty three communities in the North West Territories, with the head office located in Fort Smith. They deliver programs and courses as close to the communities as possible which is achieved through a network of three regional campuses as well as Community Learning Centers in most of the communities.
