College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing was established in 1978, the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing was a combination of the former branch campuses of Peking University and Renmin University of China. Being Beijing Municipality attached, this comprehensive university provides mainly undergraduate courses ranging from liberal arts, sciences, history to economics, laws and managements, with more than 3,600 current students.
Covering 55,901 square meters, the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing is situated by the Xiaoyue River, Xue Yuan Road, Haidian District, where the Jimen Misty Tree, one of the eight Yenching Scenic Spots is located, together with many other research institutes and universities. With elegant buildings amidst exuberant trees and flowers on the campus, the university provides its students with a quiet and comfortable environment for study.
College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing has highly qualified teaching faculty. It has over 227 full-time teachers, including more than 77 with a senior title and five experts entitled to the Government’s Special Subsidy. Fifty-seven per cent of the teachers hold a master’s or above degree. In addition, there are young and middle-aged initiators of different academic field working on the campus.College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing is equipped with such facilities as academic building, office building, library, lab building, computer center, academic lecture hall, language laboratories, and multi-media laboratory. Now, the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing has 14 undergraduate specialties provided, two of which are appointed Key Fields of Study of Beijing Municipality, namely, Food Science and Economic Law. Besides, the programs of Biology Technology and Resource Environment and Urban Rural Planning are models of specialty construction of Beijing. In addition, the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing owns a key laboratory: Beijing Laboratory of Bioactive Substances and Functional Food. In addition to the aforementioned key programs and lab of Beijing Municipality, our college has several key programs of Beijing Union University. History, Human Geography and Journalism are among them. The year 2006 saw the programs of Food Science and History in our college enroll postgraduates as pioneers of Beijing Union University.
College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing is open to the world, and has established cooperation relationships with many universities and institutions of higher education in America, the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Korea, etc. It hosts programs of staff and student exchange. Students in an exchange program will have their credits admitted from both sides, as in the cooperation frames of 3 plus 1 and 3 plus 2. Under the support of Yanchin University Alumni with Mr Lei Jieqiong as its leader, the College of Arts and Science of Beijing Union University – CASBUU Beijing signed an MOU concerning educating students jointly with PESI, an education organization of America. There have been nearly 100 foreign experts who have come to lecture the teachers, postgraduates and senior undergraduates since the establishment of the cooperation. In addition, the college is one of the universities entitled to enroll students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Every year, it hosts more than 200 students from either foreign countries or from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
