In 1946,
Gilmour academy was founded by the
Brother of Holy Cross from Notre Dame, Indiana. The academy is based in Gates Mills, Ohio, United States. Gilmour Academy is an autonomous coeducational academy which provides the Catholic and college-preparatory education in the Holy Cross tradition. The organization opened its Middle School in 1973 under the guidance of Brother Carl Shonk. The organization acquired Glen Oak School in 1982 to start a co educational institution. With the passing of time, in 1985 Gilmour Academy opened its two new schools under the name Lower School and Montessori preschool.
In 2004, Gilmour Academy built a new building of Middle School with the facilities of Fine Arts, science labs and classrooms, several computer labs, music and visual arts lab, photography and art classes. The students of Lower School have been participating in the national levels for many years.
Gilmour Academy provides the religious education as per the Catholic and Christian perspective. The organization has facility of wireless and wire Internet in most parts of campus. The school has also students from countries like South Korea, Taiwan, China, Mexico, Canada, Sweden, Swain and India.
Gilmour Academy runs numerous extracurricular activities in the campus including journalism, art and music, service, forensics and sports. The academy also runs few athletics programs for students and the sports teams are divided into junior varsity, freshmen and Middle School levels. Maximum students of Gilmour take part in sports championships of games like volleyball, hockey, basketball, baseball, football, golf, cross country, tennis, swimming, soccer,
Lacrosse and softball.
