Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT campus is situated at north-west corner of Muzaffarpur city, along Muzaffarpur- Motihari road. The college is spread over an area of 85 acres (340,000 m2) at a distance of approximately four kilometers from Muzaffarpur railway station.
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT generally known as MIT Muzaffarpur, is a public, coeducational College of Engineering in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, India. This College of Engineering came up just after India got independence in 1947 (in 1954). The keystone of this institute was laid by the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of Engineering and Pharmacy. The institute is one of the best institutions of Bihar that has a scenic well planned campus. MIT celebrated its fifty years in 2004.
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT originally set up with the name College of Civil Engineering, Muzaffarpur, came up on September 25, 1954 with only one discipline i.e. Civil engineering. Mechanical engineering and Electrical engineering disciplines were started later in the year 1960 and the institute was renamed as Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology. Further, Pharmacy and Leather Technology were added in the year 1978 and 1986 respectively. Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering disciplines were introduced recently in the year 2001.
The Small Industries Research, Training and Development Organization (SIRTDO) were set up at
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT in the year 1976 with grants from the Government of Bihar.
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT offers hostel accommodation for its students. There are seven hostels in total that offer accommodation. The college gives admission to about 200 students each year and the total strength of students in the institute is almost 900.
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT has a well-stocked library equipped with thousands of books related to all streams of engineering. The library has a matchless collection of some 15000 international and national journals in different branches of engineering and has over 35000 of text and reference books. At present MIT has the various branches at Under-Graduate Bachelor of Technology like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Leather Technology as well as the college also offers Bachelor of Pharmacy program.
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT also offers some programs for post graduation like Machine Design, Thermal Engineering etc. It also offers facilities for research PhD in all departments. The Training and placement cell at
Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology-MIT takes care of the students' training programme during the college days and directs them for seeking employment by organizing campus interviews in the college. It also makes them aware about the vacancies in various industries /organizations and helps them to get a job after passing out.
