The Government of Maharashtra and the University of Mumbai granted permission to the Gokhale Education Society, Nashik to start a single faculty science college at Bordi from the academic year 1994-95. N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane started with one division of F.Y.B.Sc. and became a full fledged degree college of science in subsequent years. We have also added the Commerce stream in 2005.The College has created facilities for the urban as well as rural and adivasi students for higher education and tried to make them self-sufficient and employable in the nearby industrial sector.

At N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane we strive to establish a culture of learning and excellence by providing value based education and a wide range of professional and vocational courses for the poor and downtrodden as also for the adivasis and the underprivileged so as to enable them to meet the changing socioeconomic needs.
N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane continues offering quality service in the field of education and upliftment of the tribal and lesser privileged adivasis of the Thane belt. In the next ten years, we aspire to add M.Sc. Biotechnology and vocational courses according to the demand of times. The life sciences subjects will be housed in a separate building and will be developed into a Research Centre. We shall also venture into developing a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and a Green House so as to help our students get hands-on training in commercial projects and establish linkages.
The Commerce faculty will be developed and will offer post graduate courses.Our efforts would be directed towards establishing a sound research based teaching-learning atmosphere. The world is undergoing a sea change due to phenomenal growth of IT and Applications of IT in the form of computerization and transmission of electronic information. With a view to keep pace with the changing times and to equip ourselves to meet the challenges posed before us in the present competitive era, N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane undertook to develop a computer training center which has gradually developed as a centre for courses in IT.
The incharge of the sports activities arranges for the selection of N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane teams for the inter collegiate competitions in various group events. The selected team should practice collectively without disturbing their academic shedule. Those selected students who will not participate in daily practice sessions would be removed from the team and interested students will be given a chance. The teams should prepare themselves so that they can compete with any of the teams in the University of Mumbai. Students are encouraged to participate in the group and individual events organised by University of Mumbai, other colleges in the University & authorised copetitions. No students and teams would be premitted to participate in privately organised cometitions officially. N B Mehta Valwada Science College – Thane has a large play ground which is about 2.5 acres and is utilized by students for playing cricket, volley ball, kho-kho and other Athletic games. The gymkhana Provides Dumb-bells, multi-gym and Bars and plates.
