Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College is the only fullfledged institution of higher education in commerce, in the entire central Asom region. The college was started on the 24th of September, 1984 in the premises of Sankardev Natya Chora under the name of Nagaon Commerce College. It was renamed as Nagaon GNDG Commerce College. after the name of Late Gopinath Dev Goswami, an illustrious son of Nagaon and was shifted to its present site at Panigaon, Nagaon in 1991.
Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College owes its existence to the pioneering and tireless work of its founder President Late Ratnakanta Bora, Rtd. I.A.S. and the founder-principal Sjt Kamal Chandra Goswami and the generous donations of the family of Late Gopinath Dev Goswami. Starting with only 139 students in the year of its inception, the college has blossomed into a premier institution for commerce education with a sizable number of students in its rolls every year. Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College with a dedicated teaching faculty and an efficient administrative staff under the guidance of an able principal makes a sincere attempt to prepare the students for a good career in commerce and industry and helps them build up character and personality as becoming of responsible citizens. Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College is situated at Jyoti Nagar, Panigaon, Nagaon, Assam. The college has a small but compact library. Generally the library observes the following timings for students. The college has a small hostel for outstation male students. Desirous students may apply to the principal at the time of admission. Since the seats are limited, admission will be given on a first come first served basis. The College has a recognised N.S.S. Unit. The students render various service under the guidelines of this unit and competent volunteers are selected to join National Level Campus.
Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College organises extension lectures on the various subjects and recent issues which are relevant to the society and students. Various community oriented programmes may include, survey of the neighborhood area, organising health check-up camps and blood donation camps, arranging Yoga Training Camps and meditation classes etc. There are also provision for imparting Aesthetic Education to the students, by organizing a series of extension lectures and workshops on appreciation of Literature, Dance, Painting and such other art forms.
The Career guidance cell of Nagaon Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College provides information to the students on various career opportunities available. Its prime objective is to disseminate information regarding education, employment and management in and outside the state and also enable students to prepare for various competitive examinations. With this end in view spoken English classes, personality development classes, career counseling for M.B.A. and other examinations will be provided by the cell.
