Late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, a visionary, had established Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, to water the thurst of education of the downtrodden and financially affected people and areas. The branches of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha are spread all over Maharashtra and one of them is our institution Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara renamed in 2005, prior it was known as Arts, Science and Commerce College, Lonand. It was renamed in honour of Mr. sharadchandra Pawar, present union Agricultural minister as he has adopted this college and his helping hand for the institution whenever necessary. It is a grant-in-aid college affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It has been accredited by NAAC with C++ in 2004.
Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara is located in hilly and drought affected area in Khandala tahsil. The college is having spacious area of 18 acres. The main building has Principals cabin, office, classrooms, Library and staffroom. The computer lab and science laboratories are in separate building having 20 classrooms for both shifts. Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara has spacious playground having 400 mtrs track, handball, Volley ball, Kho-Kho and kabaddi grounds. College has separate Gymkhana also. The open stage facility is used for cultural acitivities. It enables the students for development of their overall personality.
Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara runs B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and B.C.A. as the main courses, supporting few short term courses like fashion designing tailoring, MSCIT, Rangoli, Mehandi and Spoken English. The Spoken English course is designed as to give an opportunity to the rural and hilly area students to overcome the lacuna in communicative competence and to prepare them for the different competitive fields like BPO and competitive exams. Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara has the best tradition of results at university level. The college is providing every opportunity for girls students also. Encouraging them by providing different schemes and scholerships sponsored by the institution and by Govt. and Recently the UGC has sanctioned 60 lakh rupees for the construction of ladies hostel.
Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara has following departments. English, Marathi, Hindi, Geography, History, Politics, Economics in Arts stream, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Botony,, Zoology and Mathematics in Science stream and department of Commerce in commerce stream. Recently the college has started BCA also. The college has sufficient staff according to the criterion of UGC. Our students have achieved many prizes at state and national level competitions, We have a monopoly in winning handball competition for the past twenty years. Not only in academic but the students are well aware of their social responsibilities too.
Sharadchandra Pawar Mahavidyalaya – Satara organizes different programmes for value education, community development environmental awareness and protection. Community development undertaken through these acitivities are as follows- fire crackerless diwali, Blood donation, Tree plantation, Collection of nirmalya during Ganesh festival, Snake rescue operation, lectures on epidemics and global warming day celebration through NSS, Teachers day celebration, exhibitions, superstition exadication and no vehicle day.
