University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala at Punjabi University Campus Patiala came into existence in the year 2003, after long serious deliberations for about six months between the senior faculty of the University, technical experts and the Vice-Chancellor regarding the need of quality education in the field of Engineering and Technology in the state of Punjab. Punjabi University has shown a remarkable growth and excellence in the various fields over the last 40 years and has been accredited with Five Star status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Keeping in view the increasing needs of technical education and lack of proper faculty and facilities available in many recently established engineering colleges and feeling deeply concerned with the deterioration in the quality standards in the technical education, the University decided to use its potential for enriching the aspiring students and their parents with quality technical education in the state of Punjab, Overwhelming response from the people was witnessed during counseling conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, when University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala was the first wherein all the seats in the three field of engineering (Computer, Electronics & Communication and Mechanical) were filled in the first counseling itself. This exhibits the tremendous faith; the people of Punjab have on the capacity and capability of Punjabi University, Patiala.
University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala on its part, has drawn up a master plan to be executed in three phases to provide technical education in the basic and specialized fields in the time to come. Although only three branches leading to B.Tech. degree have been offered in the first phase, second phase would introduce M Tech. programmes in various disciplines besides adding another three branches namely Micro-electronics, Power Engineering and Bio-informatics and the third phase would include the further expansion and stress on the research work and establishment of a separate research and development centre with active involvement and participation of the industry. This centre would strive for providing solution to the technical problems of the industry and would suggest ways and means for overall growth of the industry in the region. University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams.
Infrastructure of University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala an area of 14 acres of land in the University Campus constitutes The University College of Engineering. It includes the instructional area, laboratories, computer and informatics centre, library, workshops, administrative offices, hostels, one each for the boys and girls with a capacity of 400 each, a swimming pool and landscapes with an approximate cost of Rs. 25 crores extending over a total building area of more than 32,000 sq. meters. The workshops which have already been constructed are equipped with the modern and latest equipment. University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala aims to provide all other modern amenities and teaching aids in its academic area such as library, informatics centre, class rooms, seminar rooms etc. and as well as in both the hostels.
University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala is located in Punjabi University Campus, NH - 64 Patiala, Punjab. The main building of University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala is a towering 9 storey structure due to be completed within a few months. With floors connected through a lift system the college is proposed to be centrally air conditioned. When fully complete it shall harbor spacious lecture halls, faculty rooms and labs. Workshops of University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala houses a dedicated complex called the workshop building as a part of its campus. These workshops have all the latest state of the art machinery for the students to work with along with various faculty heads guiding them. This building houses the following workshops to impart practical knowledge to the students.
Hostels of University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala have two 7 floored, ultra modern residential hostels, separate for Boys and Girls. It has ground plus seven floors providing accommodation to about 392 students. The ground floor of the hostel has warden's residence, common rooms, guest rooms, mess and laundry. Each subsequent floor has 28 cubical rooms which are single seats and 14 dormitories, with each dormitory accommodating 2 students. The hostel is provided with elevators, anti-fix facility, RO purified water and round the clock security for the residents. Each hostel building is one of the four similar hostel blocks, of which the remaining will come up in the near future.
Placement Cell of University College of Engineering – UCOE Patiala has a centralized placement cell which works towards placing the students of the university, thus giving them a launch pad to start their careers. The placement cell engages in career counseling activities for the students. It also works toward enriching the knowledge of the students by organizing seminars and workshops on the latest in their respective fields. The cell acts as a bridge between the students and the industry. It also advices on restructuring of curriculum on the basis of inputs gathered from the alumni and the industry.
