Shri. Tarun Gogoi was elected as the Chief Minister of Assam in the year 2001 and assumed his office on 17 May 2001. He was born on 1 April 1936 in (Jorhat, British Raj) present-day Assam, India. Shri Tarun Gogoi pursued his education from J.B. College, Jorhat (Assam) and Gauhati University (Assam). He holds B.A. degree and L.L.B. degree. He is the member of Indian National Congress (I).
