Madeleine Korbelová Albright, the first lady to become the United States Secretary of State, was born on May 15, 1937. Her nomination came on December 5, 1996 by the then U.S. President Bill Clinton. Madeleine Albright was sworn in as the United States Secretary of State on January 23, 1997. She is also the 20th United States Ambassador to the United Nations holding office from January 27, 1993 – January 21, 1997.
