Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra, A Premier Girls Institution of Haryana owes its inception in July 1968 as an Arts College to the philanthropic zeal of the illustrious founder members of the Prabandhak Samiti who were inspired by the teachings of Swami Daya Nand , the founder of the Arya Samaj . Now it has developed into a multifaculty Post Graduate girls college which has rendered maritorious service to the society in the field of women education .The aim of establishing Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra was to make an easy access of higher education to the girls of Shahabad & its adjoining villages in Haryana and others states. The College is situated on Delhi- Chandigarh/ Amritsar G.T Road between Pipli-Kurukshetra and Ambala Cantt It is well connected with Rail and road Transport.
Starting from a proverbial scratch today Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra possesses a vast campus with magnificent double storey building comprising of Administrative Block, Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science and Post Graduate Blocks, Auditorium, Library, Audio-Visual cum Seminar Room, Student Centre and Hostel Building. The College has a spacious Multi-purpose playground, lush green lawns spread in all the three main building blocks of the college. A fountain and statue of Swami Daya Nand are the pride additions of the campus.
The Aim of Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra has been to provide quality education for all walks of women-rural-urban and equip them with up to date knowledge of all fields . Our object is to enthuse amongst the students the ideas of Indian Vedic Culture, to empower women and prepare them to face competitive world with courage, conviction and determination. Many of the old students of the college have risen very high in their life by securing high status jobs. Our Hockey Players have been rendering valuable services to motherland by laurels to the Indian Women Hockey Team.
National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC) Bangalore accreditated Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra at B+ level. It is a matter of pride for us that the members of the Peer Team of NAAC gave concluding remarks in the Draft Report of the college that it has been rendering yeoman service in promoting women's education since inception of in the year 1968. They felt that its achievement are quite impressive and potentialities are greater in the years ahead. the institution pledges itself its betterment for its future strives.

The Girls Hostel of Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra which has been in operation since last 20 years fulfills long felt need of the students of rural area of Haryana and the students from distance places of other neighboring states who join this college to persue general and job oriented Courses. All the subject associations , women cell , NSS & Red Ribbon Club units arrange ample number of college level & Inter College level competitions related to National days, Cultural ,Fine Arts , Home Science ,Talent exploration function for new entrants & two days' Inter College Cultural Fest.
It was in (fact started in 1982 to accommodate Hockey Players and Athletes who brought laurels to Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra when sports Authorities of Haryana allowed Hockey and Athletic Wing to the College. At that time all the amount spent to raise a five room Hostel was donated by then President of the College Lala Bhal Singh Gupta and his Brother Lala Amar Nath Gupta. Later on demand for Hostel accomodation from the rural area increased and the proper hostel Building was constructed with the Liberal donation of the members of the Managing Committee, the Community and the matching grant sanctioned by Haryana Govt. and with the help of U.G.C.Hostel Grant., now the Hostel is extended again in last two years. At present it has spacious and well designed three storey building comprising 47 well furnished rooms having all modern amenities for the accomodation of more than 150 students. The congenial atmosphere coupled with care and comfort that the Hostel promises to provide is bound to help the serious students to attain their Goals.
Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra NSS was started functioning in 1976. Since then the unit has been working efficiently and untiringly . This unit was declared best NSS Unit of KUK in 1984. Three students of the college Shelly, Sonia and Indra were awarded Nanki Devi Medal, which is given to NSS women worker of KUK. Our student Miss Shelly got National award in 1995 in National Integration Camp. Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra team represented Haryana State in National Integration NSS Camp five times .The College also organized All India Inter University Women National Integration Camp in 1996 sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. About 200 NSS volunteers and teacher in charges of 14 universities from different states participated in it. This was the first National Integration Camp exclusively for women students, first time sanctioned to a girl’s college in Haryana by Central Govt. Now college has two units of NSS volunteers who regularly involve in activities like Blood Donation, Adult Education, Cleanliness Drives, AIDS awareness, T.B, Cancer, Pulse Polio Program and Eye Operation Camps, Tree Plantation, and Handicraft's Training.
Women cell has been established in Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra under Women National Policy of Education. Its aim is to empower women in their struggle for equality and for an effective presence in all areas of society and development. The cell organized various talks & competitions to make students aware of Women's rights & responsibilities. Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya - AKMV Kurukshetra organised blood donation camp every year in collaboration of Rotary Club of Shahabad (M.) Our college has the unique distinction of being over all best women college in cultural activities at Kurukshetra University Zonal Youth Festival for five times in a row from 1988 to 1992 & again in 2005 & 2006. Our college established its supremacy in cultural field by winning not only the overall best women trophy but even the covetous over all best college trophy (Men / Women) in 2002 by participating in 24 events out of 27 events of competitions and scoring highest amongst 31 participating colleges of Ambala Zone.
