Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore the pioneer research institution in the field of sericulture, was established at Chennapattana in 1961, under the administrative control of Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India for the over all development of silk industry in the country. During the course of development the Institute was shifted to Mysore the princely city in the year 1963. Over the years the Institute has grown in to a full pledged centre of excellence and provided commendable support to enhance silk productivity and quality ensuring generation of higher income for the farmers. Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore is located in the southern part of Mysore city on the H.D.Kote - Manandavadi Road at about 8 km from Railway Station.
Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore organizes training courses covering various aspects of mulberry sericulture, especially on pre-cocoon sector. On basis of duration, these training courses are broadly classified as long-term A. Structured Courses and short-term B. Certificate/Capsule Courses. In addition to these courses, the short duration non-calendared C. Ad-hoc Courses are also organized, on request, as per the requirement of different agencies.
Training Division of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore is equipped with all the required modern facilities and supported with professionally competent scientists-cum-faculty for conducting various training programmes. It has well-equipped Laboratories, Lecture Halls with latest audio-visual aids, Computer facility with LAN & Internet, Rearing houses, mulberry garden, etc. Training Division is also housing a fully equipped Sub-Distributed Information Center for Bio-informatics funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, which provides database retrieval service to the scientists and students/ trainees.
Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore has good facilities for boarding and lodging. It has separate hostels for men and women, which accommodate 150 incumbents at a time. These hostels have furnished rooms, spacious dinning halls, kitchens and visitor lounges. The hostels have various facilities for indoor and outdoor games and other recreations. Several other amenities like medical services, transport, communication, etc. are also available for the welfare of the trainees and students.
Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute – CSRTI Mysore has forged close links with the industry through its consultancy assistance services in the applications of sericulture science, sericulture technology, sericulture engineering, sericulture extension, sericulture training and allied disciplines for business development. These Concept to Commissioning Services are rendered outside the institute, and involve only applications of the experience and expertise of our staff at the existing levels, with minimal or no usage of our facilities for experimental work. Depending on the level of inputs and involvement demanded, these services have been catagorised as Advisory Assistance, Resource & Potential Survey Assistance, Project Formulation Assistance and Total Project Assistance.
