Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur runs under the auspices of Sri Channabasaveshwara Swamy Rural Education Society(CRED Society).The society was established in 2000 under the Chairmanship of Sri G.S.Basavaraj, the honorable Member of Parliament from Tumkur with a mission to create centers for excellence in education and other related fields and there by serving the society to enhance the quality of life through excellence and leadership in professionally relevant education.
Though Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur was the first institute to be set up by the society, it was just the beginning. The society gradually expanded with other Educational Institutions like Nightingale Institute of Nursing (B.Sc. and GNM), Bangalore, Channabasaveshwara College of Education (B.Ed.), Channabasaveshwara Teacher's Training Institute (TCH), CITRIS, CIT-VTP Centre, CIT Institute of Management Studies, CIT Research Foundation & E-CIT Solutions Pvt. Ltd., More courses are to be added to the list so that a wide spectrum of courses tailored to meet the individual capabilities and their career goals are available.

The computer centre is geared to provide the specialist environment and is equipped with systems of latest available configuration with Internet facility. The computer terminals are connected via LAN & Internet connectivity. The faculty members of our department ensure a multidimensional development of the student with a balanced blend of the theory as well as the practical exposure. Each member of the teaching faculty has been appointed after careful and through examination of their academic credential, experience and professional ability.
The Department of Physical & Health Education was established in Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur in the year 2001. The mission of the department is: “ To nurture the spirit of healthy constitution and character in every aspiring individual for the overall development of body, mind and soul thereby making them responsible citizens of the country and also resourceful engineers”. The Department of Physical & Health Education intensely believes in the principle of true education under the grand shade of good health and fitness. It functions within the purview of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum keeping in view the goals and obligations.
Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur has well equipped classrooms for separate occupancy for girls and boys. All the classrooms are established with blackboards, projectors etc. The institution provides residential hostel to the students separately for boys and girls. The residential hostel is managed by a teacher-warden appointed by the Principal. Admissions are made on first come first served basis and every inmate is to conduct himself/herself as per prevailing rules and regulations. Right of admission and right of expulsion rest with the authorities. There are two hostels for boys such as boy’s hostel-1, boy’s hostel-2 and one girl’s hostel.
Research and development activities form an integral component of Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur towards achieving excellence in imparting high quality technical education. Since the inception of the Institute, faculty and students have strived hard to promote the research culture. Innumerable R&D and consultancy projects have been successfully completed by faculty members. The role of industry in the field of technical education is felt to be indispensable. In order to provide a thrust to this, CIT has developed the Industry Institute -Partnership Cell, (I PC). Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology - CIT Tumkur provides Bachelor Degree and Master Degree to the students.
