GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad is established with main emphasis on education and research in the basic and emerging areas of Science. The saga of science programmes has started in GITAM beginning with UGC funded innovative course, M.Sc. Environmental studies in 1995 to the latest addition of M.Sc. Food Science and Technology in 2008. All the science departments have well developed laboratories.
GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad offers a diversified learning experience characterized by strong faculty-student interaction with a perfect blend of structure and flexibility that allows students to develop personally and professionally in an enriching and collaborative environment. The curriculum is regularly revised to suit the requirements of research organizations and industry. The institute also offers research programmes and currently more than 200 students are pursuing M.Phil/Ph.D. studies.
GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad is located at Patancheru Mandal, Medak, Hyderabad. The GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad faculty has completed thirty one research projects and about ten projects are in progress funded by UGC, DST, DAE etc. and industry majors - HPCL, Port Trust, Steel Plant etc. Many senior faculties have excellent training in advanced research laboratories in USA, France, Israel, Germany, South Africa, Taiwan etc. The institute has entered into MoUs with State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY-B) and University of Glasgow to facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes and also with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for joint research projects.

During 2010-11, 50 per cent of eligible students are well placed so far in industry majors – Water Health India, Panacea Medical Tech, Efftronics, VMHS, Hetero, Wipro, TCS, Mind Tree, Accenture, Cap Gemini, Head Strong, IGATE, HP, Transes Ocean, HCL, SUTH, HSBC, Sriram, MPhasis, Hidden Brains and CSC. A significant number of students are also opting for higher studies in advanced research labs.
The activity of providing library facilities to the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad students and staff started along with the starting of academic programmes. The library activity of GITAM started with the setting up of library for College of Engineering in 1980. This was added by library of College of Management Studies 1988, which was followed by the library of GIFT in 1997. To optimize the resource utilization and maximize convenience to the users, the need of centralizing the library facility was felt. Accordingly GITAM Management took a bold step of constructing a huge building of architectural excellence with all modern gadgets.
The central library of GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad was commissioned in 2002 and subsequently transformed into Knowledge Resource Centre. The building was ideally and centrally located at the heart of the campus overlooking the vast expanse of scores of acres. It is garlanded by a cluster of academic buildings, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports grounds with international standards, canteen and hostel buildings. The hillock of Rushikonda, the legendary abode of saints, surrounded by green pastures and the blue ocean are some of the visual delights in the vast panoramic view from the library.
With a view to providing personal care to the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad students coming from various corners of the country, the University has built hostels that provide the right academic ambience for students in search of excellence in their pursuits. The disciplined and caring hostel environment helps the student imbibe positive values which serve as a firm foundation for their life and career. With the spirit of sharing and living in a multicultural community, they grow into evolved human beings.
The University administration puts in all efforts to help the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad students feel at home in terms of comforts and concern of the hostel personnel. Eco-friendly environment, encouraging academic ambience, uncompromising quality of hygiene, steam cooking, safe drinking water, round the clock security, availability of qualified doctors and resident wardens, indoor games facilities, uninterrupted power supply- all these ensure a very safe and secure stay for the student. Health Care Centre is available in the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad campus with all types of medical advise, clinical tests and inpatient facility with five beds each for boys and girls. The centre is monitored by a resident medical doctor Dr. R. Prabhakar Rao. Specialists visit the centre during their appointed hours. An ambulance is made available on 24x7 bases to attend to medical emergencies. Students and Staff also have free access to dental college and hospital located in the campus to get their dental problems treated.
Two nationalized banks – Union Bank of India and Indian Bank operate their branches in the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad campus with the required banking operations. All students and Staff have access to both the banks. Two ATM counters of Union Bank of India and one ATM counter of Indian Bank offer services on 24 x 7 basis to all account holders with ATM facility. The working hours of the bank branches are also convenient as they operate during working hours of the University.
At present 06 food courts cater to the needs of the students and staff on the GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad campus. These food courts are located in different places of the campus and serve different types of food to suit the divergent taste of the students and staff. College offers different kind of Bachelor, Master, Doctoral and Master of Philosophy courses leading to different streams with various specializations. In this academic year more than 50% of eligible GITAM Institute of Science – Hyderabad students from different disciplines of science are already recruited (by the end of February 2011) by various companies in the first phase of placement activities by Water Health India, Panacea Medical Tech, Efftronics, VMHS, Hetero, Wipro, TCS, Mind Tree, Accenture, CapGemini, Head Strong, IGATE, HP, Trans Ocean, HCL, SUTH, HSBC, Sriram, MPhasis, Hidden Brains and CSC.
