JSS Polytechnic - Mysore was established by JSS MAHAVIDYAPEETHA in the year 1986 with a commitment to provide qualitative and relevant technical education at the diploma level. The polytechnic is situated on an extensive 6 hectares of land in 'JSS TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS' CAMPUS, to the west of University of Mysore, Manasagangothri JSS Polytechnic - Mysore is located at about 6 kms from KSRTC Bus stand and 5 kms from the Railway station. It is recognized by the Government of Karnataka and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.
JSS Polytechnic - Mysore , recognized by the Government of Karnataka and approved by AICTE, and managed by a Governing Council is to provide full time diploma programs in professional disciples to eligible students, selected as per the norms of Govt. of Karnataka. JSS Polytechnic - Mysore aims at training students in various technical fields at diploma level to fulfill the needs of the Industries. It strives to build creativity, innovation and distinction in students. It aims to establish good and healthy relationship with Industries through placement and training centre.
JSS Mahavidyapeetha has established a separate directorate to look after its technical institutions. This directorate, under the control of Director (Technical), operates with an integrated approach to produce technical manpower. The JSS Polytechnic - Mysore and Industrial Training Centres lay emphasis on skill development in the technical manpower where as the Colleges of Engineering lay emphasis on the transfer of technology, research and development, higher education in engineering, Consultancy, sponsored projects, continuing education, Industry - Institute partnership etc., Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Parks (STEPs) attached to engineering colleges address themselves to product development and entrepreneurship development.
JSS Polytechnic - Mysore offered Diploma Courses. Eligibility for Diploma Courses Candidate must be a citizen of India, Candidates other than Karnataka SSLC have to produce eligibility certificate obtained from the Board of Technical Examinations, Bangalore - 560 001 before admission.Must have studied for at least five full academic years in Karnataka between 1st Standard and qualifying examination (study of one class for one year will be treated as one academic year). Admission notification containing rules and regulations for admission will be announced every year normally in the month of April.
Library in JSS Polytechnic - Mysore being one of the very important organs of the system is the centre of all activities in the campus. At present the center is equipped with over 4000 volumes covering all branches of science and engineering. It has adopted open access system and maintains author, title, subject and series catalogues to provide multiple access to the stack. The centre is catering to the students and faculty and participants of various short term courses conducted under the auspices of the continuing Education center. The Library Resourses of JSS Polytechnic - Mysore include a good collection of prescribed text books, recommended books, reference works like Dictionaries, Hand Books, Data Books etc., It also has fairly good collection of IS specifications, Project Reports.
Placement and Training cell in JSS Polytechnic - Mysore is functioning in the campus To fulfill the needs of students in placement and training. A senior faculty of the polytechnic is in-charge of the functioning of the cell.
A health care unit of JSS Polytechnic - Mysore has been provided in the campus with a qualified physician. The centre is supported with necessary equipment and medicines. The centre works between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. on the working days.Loan of Books to members is made against borrower's cards. Students of JSS Polytechnic - Mysore are allowed to borrow two books for a fortnight. Unless renewed for a further period, the books have to be returned before the due date, failing which overdue charges are levied.
JSS Polytechnic - Mysore has separate hostel facility for about 40 boys. It is located in rented building close to the college. The hostel runs a mess with a modern kitchen to ensure adequate hygiene. At the time of admission to the hostel, the students of JSS Polytechnic - Mysore are required to pay as sum of Rs. 5000/- including deposits. Since the hostel facilities are limited, the allotment of the seats for the hostel is done based on the need of the candidates. The general mess is run on a dividing system i.e., the mess expenses during the month are divided among the number of students.
State Govt. Buses ply through the campus at frequencies of less than 20 minutes., linking almost all the major residential areas, the central city bus stand and the railway station with the JSS Polytechnic - Mysore campus. The first bus leaves the city to the campus at 6.30 a.m. and the last bus leaves the campus at 10.00 p.m. The JSS Polytechnic - Mysore campus is accessible by several bus routes such as 72, 129, 130, 135, 136, 253, Special peak hour services are also operated by the state transport corporation during such hours (mid morning and evening) for the convenience of the students.
