Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore made its appearance as Kavali College in 1951. It was inaugurated on 1st July 1951 by late P.V.Rajamannar,the then Chief Justice of Composite Madras State. The college started in 1951 with an initial strength of 96 in the Junior Intermediate class with the group subjects Mathematics, Commerce,History and Economics,along with the Telugu and English languages. Degree Course was started in 1953 with Economics as the main. Then B.A.,(Telugu),B.A.,(History) and B.Com. degree courses have been started.P.U.C. was started in 1957-58 in place of the two year Intermediate course. The same year Science group was also started. The three year degree course came into existence the next year in place of the two year degree course.
Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore started B.Sc Computer Science course from 1989-90 B.C.A, Microbiology, B.Com., Computer Applications were added in 1999. Later B.C.A. was discontinued. Jawahar Bharati was founded in a vast campus of 100 acres.in 1954. T.Rami Reddy Arts block was constructed by the charitable gesture of Tikkavarapu Rami Reddy.We have an artistic Open-Air-Theatre, a good Tampoe Library and Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University Study Centre. We have Sami Muthyala Chetti Hostel and Visvodaya 'B'Hostel aided by the Social Welfare department.For women students there is Smt.Durgabai Deshmukh Hostel. The college passed through "The Golden Jubilee celebrations" in the year 2000-2001 which were inaugurated by the Governor of A.P.,Hon'ble Dr.C.Rangarajan on 24-8-2001. Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore got NAAC accreditation with 'A' grade in 2006.
Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore is situated at Janathapet North Kavali SPSR Nellore District, AP. The college has the unique distinction of being selected by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, for the award of the status of College with Potential for Excellence. Jawahar Bharati is one of the 6 colleges in Andhra Pradesh and 47 colleges in the entire Country to have received this distinction in the first phase. It is the only college in the Sri Venkateswara and Sri Krishnadevaraya Universities area.

Visvodaya Hostel –A for is men situated with in Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore Campus. It was established in the year 1952. The Hostels are running on no loss and no profit basis. In 1998 S.V. University has given permanent reorganization for 800 Residential Students treating this hostel as Attached Hostel. Hence Hostel is established in spacious campus of 10 acres provide accommodation and food backward students of kavali vicinity . It has a total strength of 895. The Hostels has 62 spacious and well ventilated rooms . It has play ground for the inmates to play games in the evening.
The Social Welfare Department has constructed a hostel building in 1976-1977 for providing facilities to scheduled caste students studying at Jawahar Bharati making use of land provided by Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore. Today Visvodaya Hostel-B has 58 spacious rooms. It has one well and a bore well to provide uninterrupted water supply to the students . It has one dining hall, a well built compound wall and lighting facility. It has a Hostel Committee and Mess Committee with Chief Warden, Warden, Deputy Warden, Accounts Officer, 6 elected student representatives as members and 3 student Secretaries to supervise the running and purchase of provisions and other requirements for the hostel. It is maintained by a team of efficient personnel.
Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore Smt. Durgabai Deshmukh, Visvodaya Women’s Hostel was started in 1964 to provide Hostel facility to girl students. There are 38 spacious and well-ventilated rooms, 3 dormitories ,2 Dinning Halls, 1 kitchen and 40 bathrooms. The total annual expenditure of the Hostel is Rs.16 lakhs. It has an office room, matron room, reading room facility is provided with News papers and periodicals for light reading. The Hostel has a bore well, a well and an overhead tank to ensure water supply to students through out the day. The rooms are fitted with fans and tube lights. It is enclosed with a well-built compound wall with rich plantation within the compound. For recreation of students they are provided with a TV set and a Tennecoit court. The Hostel is managed by an efficient team of personnel.
Jawahar Bharati Degree College – Nellore has a tradition of hosting Seminars at the State and National level.
