Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela is a constituent of Kanak Manjari Trust. It is a premier institution engaged in imparting education and training in Pharmacy. At present the institute offers courses at Post Graduate (M.Pharm), Degree (B.Pharm) and Diploma (D.Pharm) Levels. Since 1982 the institution has been on its track in fulfilling the needs for Pharmaceutical Sciences of the people and society of Orissa and through its performance and results has been able to create a niche for itself among all other institutes offering courses in Pharmacy. The Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela offers four years under graduate course in Pharmacy. It is approved by the Pharmacy council of India.
The main objective of the Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela is to promote the education and profession of Pharmacy, to promote drug discover and identification of potential compounds, to undertake clinical trails and research in order to assess the efficacy of new medicine, to create potential human research for the growing pharmaceutical industry, to create high-tech professionals.
Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela functions in its own building at Rourkela. At present it occupies around 40,000 sq.ft of covered area and 1, 10,000 sq.ft of uncovered area. Situated admist beautiful scenic atmosphere, the institute provides eco-friendly environment for all studying there. A separate three storied building is constructed for the Post Graduate department. There is s provision for lab in its ground floor with a carpet area of 249 square meters.
Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela has seven nos.of Lecturer halls, which helps in imparting teaching to the students .These lecturer halls, spread over a carpet area of 450 sq.mts, provide an interactive ambience for students to learn, interact and participate in the activities of a classroom. These rooms are well ventilated, well lighted and are enough spacious to accommodate large no. of students.
An animal house is maintained inside the premises of the Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela . This animal house contains mainly Guinea Pigs and Rabbits who have been kept for the purpose of Pharmacological Experiments.
Institute maintains the Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Physical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry-I, Pharmaceutical Chemistry-II, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Computer, Pharmaceutics Lab-II, Language Lab, Instrument Lab and so more.
These Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela laboratories provide all modern equipments required with latest state of art to conduct all types of experiments. The Pharma Chemistry Lab-1 is used for testing and quality assurance of drugs. The Pharmaceutics lab is used to formulate the medicines and is the only lab to have the latest equipments i.e. Flame Photometer, KF Titrator and Calori Meter for testing and quality control for formulation of medicine. Besides these there is also a Drug Museum being maintained by the institute where modern drugs are displayed so that, students of the institute remain updated with the latest inventions going on in the world of pharmaceutical sciences.
The Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela maintains a library of its own for the benefit of students and faculties. It contains thousands of books relating to Pharmaceutical sciences, to cater to the needs of students of Pharmacy. Continuous up dations are made in the library with newer editions of books so that the students remain updated with the newer inventions and anything new happening around them. Beside general books on Pharmacy the Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela library also subscribes many journals, newsletters and newspapers of national and international repute along with the local publications. Right now the library has about 2591 books and about 30 journals. There is a reading room adjacent to the library where the students can go and read during their leisure time. This reading room can accommodate around 40 students to study at a time.
A full time placement cell functions in the Kanak Manjari Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – KMIPS Rourkela campus to cater to the final placement need of the students passing out from the institute from various courses. The institute provides 100% placements through campus recruitment. Students passing from this institute have been placed in leading pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Glaxo, Ipca, Cadella, Dabur etc. in various sales and production positions and have excelled in performance among their co-workers in these companies. They have tie ups with different kind of companies such as IPCA Pharmaceuticals, Phizer Animal Care division, Cadilla, Panasea Biotech, Torrents, Lupins, Emcure, German Remedies, Cipla, Ranbaxy and Macleods TB Care division.
