Established in 1968, Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar is a premier institute, a gateway to academic and professional excellence having the proud privilege of working under the auspices of Khalsa College Governing Council, Amritsar. In the 49th historic All India Sikh Educational Conference, held at the premises of Khalsa College, Amritsar under the patronage of Chief Khalsa Dewan, it was proposed to establish a separate institution for women. Finally as per its resolution no. 262 dated June 10, 1967 and resolution no. 279 dated September 17, 1967 of the Governing Council of Khalsa College, it was decided to start Khalsa College for Women in the premises of Khalsa College, Amritsar.
Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar is one of the leading women institutions of Punjab situated on National Highway (G.T.Road), Amritsar. The sapling of Khalsa College for Women was implanted on July 15,1968 and a residential block known as Sehaj Dhari Hostel was converted into Khalsa College for Women. This basic structure was constructed by Sahib Bahadur Raja Harinder Singh of Faridkot in 1930.Sardar Bahadur S. Ujjal Singh, the then President of Khalsa College Governing Council and Governor of Madras, formally inaugurated the college on October 5, 1968.
Started with an inception of small number of students, now the bud has bloomed into a full-fledged institution. With continuous Journey of forty years, the infrastructural development and achievements in the fields of academics, sports and co- curricular activities, the college has earned a name amongst the prestigious women institutions of the region. Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar offers different kinds of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
A library is considered to be a soul of an educational institution. Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar Library, the knowledge house of the institution, is well stacked with 20,000 books including a variety of Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Rare Books and Text Books. All major Journals, Periodicals, Magazines and News Papers are the treasure of the library. Due to the explosion of knowledge in modern times, more and more books are being added to the previous stock.
Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar Hostel is studded with all basic amenities and has accommodation facility to house 200 girls. The self-administration of hostel mess by the students under the able guidance of warden is a unique feature. The post graduate students of Computer Science are provided with computers in their cubicles. Campus Interviews are being arranged through our placement cell in order to help Khalsa College for Women – Amritsar students to get placement even during the last semester. IBM DAKSH, a leading BPO conducted recruitment Campaign IN THE COLLEGE ON SEP 6, 2007. The students of various colleges participated in the recruitment process. 15 students of Khalsa College for women were recruited after the interview and were given offer letters on the spot. To improve the spot skills of the selected students, IBM DAKSH conducted a training programme in the college. The programme was organized by Mr. Varun, H.R. Manager of IBM on October 18,2007. Regarding the security of girls in companies and promoting awareness about placement, a counseling session was also conducted by IBM on Feb. 9, 2008 by Andrea Allen, GM (US) IBM in which the parents of students were also present.
