Mahamaya Government Degree College - Sherkot is a co-educational institute near Sherkot town of Bijnor district. This college has the privilege of becominig the first Government Degree College of the district. The sincere efforts of local intellectuals, people, political personalities and above all the present Government’s ‘Sarvjan Hitaya’ viewpoint policy anchored the foundation of the college vide G.O. no 840/70-5-2008-74(13)/2008 dated 24-12-2008 and G.O. no 2875/70-5-2008-74(13)/2008 dated 11-02-2008.
Mahamaya Government Degree College - Sherkot is situated at Near Bhanauti Pulia, Sherkot, Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. After Government’s had in shape of the sanctionaing of ‘Application Letter’ cide order no. 824/70-5-2009-41(4)/09 dated 30-06-2009 the admission process started after 01-07-2009. This is the first session of the college. In session 2009-10, students were granted admission in B.A. 1st year and B.Com. 1st year. B.Sc. 1st year’s classes shall take off from the next session. In B.A. 1st year, 107 students took admission while 78 students were admitted in B.Com. 1st year.
Mahamaya Government Degree College - Sherkot was awarded all the three faculties i.e. Arts, Science and Commerce. In Arts faculty, there are 07 subjects viz Hindi, English, Sanskrit, History, Philosophy, Home Science and Military Science whereas in Science faculty, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Mathematics are awarded by the Government. All the three faculties are upto graduate level. Along with the post of Principal, 14 posts of lecturers, one post of Librarian and 18 posts of office and support staff has been created already. Mahamaya Government Degree College - Sherkot has its own building, being constructed by U.P. Project Corporation Ltd. at the cost of Rs. 3.28 crores. The entire campus is walled with a total area of 20000 sqms. The college has its library, 200m sports track and a number of laboratories too.
The library plays a central role in helping college achieve its mission of providing students a quality education. Beyond its immediate responsibility to provide the information services and resources that support the courses of study offered at the college, the library has the broader mission of fostering in our students the importance and necessity of lifelong learning.
