PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore was established in the year 1947. "LET THERE BE CHARITY SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE MAY SHARE MY FAMILY'S PROSPERITY", said Sri. P.S.Govindasamy Naidu, the benevolent philanthropist, who believed firmly that 'Charity begins at home'. He daringly defined charity as "To serve society through development of education, industry and the needy and poor".
Thus was born PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore in the year 1947 to the PSG & Sons Charities Trust which was founded in the year 1926 by the four praise-worthy sons of P.S. Govindasamy Naidu, the four brothers of the PSG family, Thiru PSG Venkataswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Rangaswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Ganga Naidu and Thiru PSG Narayanaswamy Naidu who took "Charity through Education" with great missionary zeal.

The college has a long-standing academic tradition of excellence in research and scholarship. This is coupled with the most advanced facilities for the pursuit of higher learning. PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore has a team of experienced and efficient faculty and our academic programmes are challenging and updated. Twenty two Undergraduate and Twenty one Postgraduate programmes are offered and may of them are unique. M.Phil and Ph.D programmes are offered in Seventeen faculties.
PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore was identified as a College with Potential for Excellence by UGC in October 2004. It is one among 47 colleges in the country, 8 in the State and the only one in Bharathiar University. The college has been accredited at the FIVE STAR level by NAAC and became an ISO 9001: 1994 certified institution in 2001 and subsequently an ISO 9001: 2000 certified institution since 2003. We, at PSGCAS strongly believe in the words of philosopher Plato that, "The direction in which education makes a man, will determine his future life".The mission of the PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore is to provide value and need based education, and to provide quality education to inculcate the spirit of love, brother hood and commitment to national growth. PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore concentrates on the continual development of infrastructural facilities. The following state-of-the art facilities are provided on the campus for academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. There are 140 classrooms with audio-visual facility in a built-up area of 49,000 sq.mts., 28 laboratories in 54,110 sq.ft., equipped with the latest equipments which are fully computerized library (LAN with 6 systems) with over 78,883 books, 160 journals, 8,317 back volumes, 350 CDs and with audio, video and reprographic facilities. World-class audio-video studio equipped with Apple Mac systems.
Besides of its in the PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore campus, there is a centralized computer center with over 200 terminals, working 18 hours a day. Centralized browsing center with 20 terminals, Well-equipped language laboratory, Practice workshop (Lab for Commerce students), Book depot and typewriting institute, Statistics lab, New modernized office complex has started functioning in the college, A Broadcasting studio equipped for TV production. audio recording and dubbing & video editing.
In the PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore campus a multi-media and animation graphics studio. Hi-tech Gymnasium and health club. Proven facilities for indoor and outdoor games.Hostel facility has been provided by the college with mess. The hostel mess is run with no profit no loss. The hostel has an exclusive library common to the residential Scholars/ Students. It works till 12 midnight. College offers different kind of Bachelor, Master, Certificate, Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma courses leading to Arts, Science, Management, and Commerce stream with various specializations.
The Placement Cell of PSG College of Arts and Science – Coimbatore caters to the employment needs of the students and to the well-being of the society through proper guidance, counseling and periodic campus interviews. Total placements made during 2000-2003 by the Placement Cell are 828 with an approximate salary of RS.1 Lakh to RS.2.4Lakhs. Visiting companies include Global organization like Ford, Wipro, Elly Lily Ranbaxy Infosys, CTS and the like.89 companies visited the college for campus interview purposes.
