Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman was established in the year 1980 to cater to the growing need of a college meant exclusively for the girl students of the colliery belt keeping in mind the cosmopolitan demography of the region. Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman was established as a result of relentless endeavours and liberal financial contributions of some eminent citizens of Raniganj, dedicated to the cause of spreading education especially among women. Since then it has grown up into an educational institution of considerable repute with an enormous student enrolment to the tune of 1200 at the undergraduate level. It offers different kind of undergraduate courses.
Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman is located at P.O. Searsole Rajbari, District: Burdwan. The college is housed in a huge three-storied building on a sprawling well maintained campus of 18 bighas. Apart from the well-lit and well-ventilated classrooms with ample space, the college also boasts of a large auditorium. Besides this, there is a separate Seminar Hall inaugurated by His Excellency Mr Viren J Shah, Honourable Governor of West Bengal where the academic seminars are held. To relieve the students from the monotony of academics there is a Students’ Common Room equipped with functioning facilities for indoor games.
Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman library has a wide collection of books pertaining to various subjects. Each year, a considerable number of new accessions are made to quench the students’ and teachers’ thirst for knowledge. The college library also subscribes to a number of journals belonging to various disciplines. To make sure that the students can utilize their leisure during the college hours in reference library work, there is a well-furnished Reading Room attached to the library. The library also annexes a separate Reading Room for the teachers.
Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman has made adequate intramural arrangements for the proper manifestation of the talents of the students in games and sports. Apart from a huge playground- the venue for Annual Sports Meet of the College –there are two other permanent outdoor courts for tennis, volleyball and badminton. Most importantly the college authorities have appointed an NIS, Patiala trained games instructor so that the students are imparted systematic and scientific training in various disciplines of games and sports.
Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman National Service Scheme is a programme run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The objective of the NSS is personality development through community service. Presently there are two units of NSS at the college. Apart from regular activities throughout the year, each NSS unit also organizes a Special Camp every year at its adopted village located within a distance of 5 kilometers from the college campus.
Students who are interested in meeting the challenges of discipline and physical dexterity and experience adventurism may join the National Cadet Corps. For joining the National Cadet Corps, willing students are advised to contact the Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman office. Regular training is provided to the students. Camps are held at the State level and National level and certificates and prizes are also awarded. Students of Raniganj Girls College – Bardhaman have attended Camps at Andaman and Ladakh and seminars in Tamil Nadu with the permission of their parents / guardians in the past.
