Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas was originally founded in 1947 by some noted educationists of the neighbourhood. It was houses then in Naihati Mahendra School building and as classes were held in evening hours, had the name Rishi Bankim Chandra College (Evening). In the following years Day Section and Morning Section of the College were added.
Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas is situated at Kantalpara, Naihati North 24-Parganas(W.B). Thus, the college was born and within a very short span of time. It drew the acclaim and attention of the public and academics of note. Following in on the trifurcation in the year 1984 of the parent body for administrative purpose, the present Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College emerged as a full- fledged independent unit. In addition to imparting University affiliated courses at graduated level, the College has an immediate plan for introduction of career advancement courses in partnership with efficient private entrepreneurs of different disciplines.
Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas is a Govt aided institution of graduate studies, affiliated to the University of Calcutta and enjoying accreditation by NAAC. The College Offers courses in B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. Named after the celebrated literature Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya and situated close to his birth place , the college caters to the needs of the districts of North 24 Parganas and adjoining Nadia and Hoogly. As a center of the higher studies RBCEC acts both as an up holder of academic values and contributor towards social and economic empowerment of the young people in the neighbourhood. By imparting graduate education in Arts, Commerce and Science, the College has proved its enduring concern for society at large for over fifty years. The College now has plans to embark on extension programmes, construct a new five-storey building and add excellence to the existing machinery.
The computerized library of
Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas has a rich collection of books, 43,497 titles as on 05.05.07, and adds nearly 2000 new titles every year. The college received book donations from Rotary Sadan and USIS library during 2002-2003. Further enrichment is going to be made to time.
All students, non- teaching and teaching staff of the college can avail this facility. The ex- students and sometimes the outsiders can avail reading-room facility. Event, the Computer Center of Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas is on the first floor of the college building. The center was established to impart computer education to the students of this college and outsiders at low cost. It is a self-financed center run by a committee formed by the Governing Body of the of the college. The center offers several certificate courses in Computer Education as developed from time to time.
Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas center also comes in handy in training students of regular degree courses – B. Com .(Hons. And General), B.Sc (General) and Geography (Hons.)- having practical papers in Information technology, C+ System and Geographical Information System. Students from Film Studies are also allowed. The Computer Center ( EVNET )is equipped with internet facilities offering free access to students, teachers and the staffs. Extensive use of the facility is being made for library materials and communication ( e-mail & Fax).
Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas has set up a moderately equipped Health unit attended by registered medical practitioners. It caters to the immediate and emergent needs of the students and the Staff. There are separate common rooms for boys and girls with facilities of different games. The college has a well equipped gymnasium for students willing to develop their physical ability. The students and staff of the college can avail the facility of a Conference Room with seating arrangement for 250 persons. The hall, with a dais, has a fairly satisfactory acoustic system.
The playground is situated on the eastern side of Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas premises. It is within ten minutes' walking distance from the college. It is fairly large in size, Football, Cricket and many other matches are played on this ground. Annual sports and games are also conducted on this ground. The members of Students' union, with active participation of the administration, hold several other Cultural programmes including debate, exhibition, Antakshari Quiz etc. Wining participants are awarded prizes on the day of Annual Function of the College.
The NCC unit of Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College – RBCEC North 24 Parganas is fairly large. The members take part in weekly parades and other activities, under the guidance of an N.C.C. officer, a teacher of the college. They take part in special functions on Republic Day and independence day when national flag is hoisted and guard of honour is received by the Principle. The college has also an NSS unit. A teacher, selected by the Governing Body, heads it. Along with members of NCC the unit conducts several social activities and awareness programmed. Placement Cell in collaboration with some reputed concern looks into the job requirements of graduate / undergraduate candidates.
