Sakthi Polytechnic College - SPC Erode started functioning in September 1981. Initially three year diploma courses were offered in civil, electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Courses on Electronics and Communication Engineering and Metallurgy are offered from 1984-85. The course on Agricultural Technology is offered from 1985-86. The courses on Computer Engineering and Information Technology are offered from 2002-2003. The course on Instrumentation and Control Engineering is offered from 2003-2004.

The main aim of this institution is to impart technical education among the rural youths. Padhma bhshan. Dr.N. Mahalingam, the famous industrialist and educationalist is the promoter and president of the foundation. It is a master of pride that Sakthi Polytechnic College - SPC Erode was the first institution in this area to offer conventional Diploma Courses. The institution is managed by a Governing Council with Padhma Bhushan Dr.N.Mahalingam as Chairman. A hostel comprising of a ground floor and first floor with a built in area of 11,750 sq.ft. Comprising of 32 rooms with a capacity to accommodate 120 students’ functions for the benefit of the students.

The Driving School functions in a separate spacious building with Lecturer Hall, Demonstration Hall, Traffic Rule & signals. Display Broads, Model of different types of Auto mobile engines with qualified training staff. Efforts are on to made the driving school model one in the District.
