SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal is a unique Govt. Aided Institution approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. It was established in the year 1980 by the industrious members of the S.S.Mari Chettiar Trust, Komarapalayam with a philanthropic vision and a pioneering zeal to impart quality Education by offering specialized courses in the textile field and later on diversified into other need based areas of technical development.
SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal is a post Secondary level institute dedicated to the cause of serving the needs of rapidly growing high profile textile industries by providing competent human resources to business, industries and community. It is to motivate women, physically handicapped and weaker sections of the society to participate in the professional activities for enhancement of their socio-economic status. It is to foster entrepreneurship among the aspiring youth and inculcate an astute awareness for environmental protection among all the vital stake holders.

A well furnished library is functioning with an impressive collection of a wide variety of specialized books in every branch of Textile, Computer and Information Technology and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal library has more than 7500 Indian & foreign books and regularly subscribes to all popular journals and periodicals of academic value. About 1500 back volumes of periodicals and 750 project reports collected since 1980 are available for reference. Electronic Media resources like Video Cassettes, CDs, Internet facility and computerized data base are also available. Our library has been shifted to a new spacious hall with ample reading facility on 11/07/2007. High tech Bar - Coding System has been introduced for Book issue and return.
Separate hostel facilities are available in SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal for both boys and girls. The mess is run on the basis of dividing system by the committee of students. A well disciplined and conducive atmosphere is maintained for studying and enjoying the extra-curricular activities at the hostel. The institute operates its own buses for the benefit of the students and staff for their daily conveyance and industrial visits. The buses are run from polytechnic to Bhavani, Erode, Kavindapadi and Salem.

Communication Laboratory sponsored under World Bank Scheme offers effective training for developing skills in communication and Spoken English with latest audio visual equipments and practical approach. The co-operative store is catering to the students and staff to meet their day to day needs of stationery, cosmetics, refreshments, etc. The stores also facilitate the publication of text books and support materials by our staff authors. STD, Xerox & Lamination facilities are also provided. An exclusive Audio Visual section is developed with Multi-Media, Video Projectors, Over Head Projectors, TV and VCR to enhance the quality of teaching and instructional delivery.
SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal gives more importance to the sports activities of the students. Our students have participated in so many games and sports in District and State level and won many prizes. Two NSS units have been sanctioned by the Directorate of Technical Education. Special projects are organized to train our students in community and personality development programmes. Red Ribbon Club is functioning effectively in our Campus. The main objective of RRC is to conduct programmes on AIDS awareness for students and also for rural public with the help of trained student volunteers. SSM Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College - Namakkal provides Certificate and Diploma program to the students.
