Sarsuna College-Kolkata was founded on 11th October, 1999, under the able guidance of the eminent social worker, Sri Nirmal Mukherjee. Initially an Evening College, Sarsuna College-Kolkata had very few students, teachers and non-teaching staffs. But within five years, Sarsuna College-Kolkata becomes a very prosperous center of higher education.
Sarsuna College-Kolkata ambience is a combination of practicability modernization and serenity, much unlike other educational institutes of the city by many private and public bus services. Among other college with Behala Chowrasta and other main locations of the city, like the Tollygunge Metro Station.
Sarsuna College-Kolkata is a relatively new Institution of Higher Learning under the University of Calcutta. It started to function as an Evening College in the building of Sarsuna High School. Sarsuna College-Kolkata had no wealthy patrons, no endowments in land or property and no institutional grounding. It was born and nurtured on the incredible commitment, zeal and gritty determination of new extraordinary individuals and the accumulated hard-earned donations of hundreds of people whose dreams are embodied in this sprawling four storied structure and nurtured in the growth and progress of its two thousand strong student community.
It is the aim of Sarsuna College-Kolkata to maintain both the pace and the multifaceted nature of this progress. We the college are firm in our resolution to stand Janus like between yesterday and tomorrow rooted in the reality of the present; not denying the past while welcoming the future. Sarsuna College-Kolkata believes that the Education is a means and an end, a journey and destination, a challenge and provider of solutions. Sarsuna College-Kolkata is committed to the creation of intellectual space where students from various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds find the necessary freedom and stimulus to discover and nurture individual talents.
The Sarsuna College-Kolkata campus, measuring 5400 sq.ft.(approx), is situated beside a massive water body and amidst tranquil greenness. The building consist four floors, housing large specious class rooms & laboratories, staff room, library, office etc.
The experienced faculty members act as efficient counselors and are ever eager to guide the students in choosing their careers matching their aptitude, capability and goal. Assistance in Placement, whenever needed will also be provided to the students. Sarsuna College-Kolkata even makes arrangement for campussing by various industrial organizations. Sarsuna College organizes seminars on various issues. The teachers and students also participate in seminars and workshops organized by other instructions. Sarsuna College-Kolkata gives book bank facilities to those students who are economically poor having family income less than Rs. 2000 per month. Usually, one set of three books are issued for six months against submission of original marks heet of the latest board examination. To avail book bank facilities, student should apply to the principal, giving details of family income etc, immediately after the issuance of notice in this regard. All books must be returned within 3 days from the last University examination.
