Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune established in 1921, according to the directions of Mahatma Gandhi, as the educational memorial of Lokmanya Tilak, great patriot, leader of the freedom struggle and the great thinker, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune aimed at imparting national education. The selfless work put in by the devoted teachers and students enabled the Vidyapeeth to survive against all odds during the pre-independence period.
Since inception the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune has catered to the changing needs of the society without compromising on quality and its prime objectives. In recognition of the fundamental contribution made by the Vidyapeeth in the fields of Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Social Sciences and Distance Education, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune was awarded the status of a Deemed University in the year 1987. The horizons of the Vidyapeeth have been widening ever since. All the departments of the Vidyapeeth are well known at the national and international levels for their quality research work and other innovative and creative activities. All the programmes are designed to make the students more practically oriented and thereby make them capable of facing the challenges in life very confidently.

Situated in the heart of the city, the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune is spread over 4 acres of land. It is a green pocket surrounded by trees. The Main Building is a sprawling stately structure which brings the rich cultural heritage of the Vidyapeeth to life. The main building houses the office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, administrative offices, state of the art meeting hall and 15 classrooms.
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune offered the courses of Certificate, Diploma, Bachelors and Masters.
The Central Library of the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth - Pune possesses a sizeable collection of 85,000 book and non-book reading material in Social Sciences, Sanskrit Literature, Philosophy, Religion, Indology, Ayurveda, Computer Science, Engineering, Management etc. and provides services to students of all the courses of the Vidyapeeth. Every year the inventory progress is increasing. The Departmental Libraries, too, provide rich reading material to all the students.
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth – Pune encourages the students to make extensive use of computers. The computer laboratory is spacious. Also Internet connectivity is operational. The Vidyapeeth has developed well-equipped laboratories for Electronics, Physics, Chemistry and Biotechnology.
Besides regular classroom teaching, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth – Pune takes efforts to provide exposure to the students to various fields. Such exposure is by means of various seminars, presentations, workshops and so on. For this the students have the seminar hall - Lokmanya Tilak Hall. Each classroom is well lit having comfortable seating arrangement. The atmosphere is impregnated with vibrations of knowledge. Guest lectures are conducted in air-conditioned classrooms with the facility of OHP, slide projector and laptops.
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth – Pune provide hostel facility for Ladies and Boys. The newly constructed Ladies' Hostel fully equipped with modern amenities is ready and can accommodate more than 100 lady students. Construction of Boys' Hostel is in progress. However, presently accommodation is provided in the Guest House to a limited number of male students.
Apart from the regular Canteen, Indoor Games are also enjoyed by a large number of students in Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth – Pune.Considering the challenges to be faced in this 21st Century, the Vidyapeeth has established the Media Center. The Vidyapeeth now aims to utilize modern ICT facilities to reach student masses.
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth – Pune has established a full-fledged Training and Placement Cell for carrying out placement activities. The Placement Cell, under the guidance of the placement officer, undertakes the placement activities. It comprises of counseling, motivation, training, interaction with top management for final placement. The placement cell also help students in getting industrial training, summer projects assignments and placements through its widespread contacts within the industry. Various reputed industries visit the Vidyapeeth for campus interviews. Final year students have to pay the requisite fee (Rs. 1,000/-) for this facility. The placement facility is available only for TMV Campus students.
