V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai was established in 1982 by V. Ramakrishna Charitable Trust to perpetuate the memory of late Sri V. Ramakrishna. Situated in the northern part of the city of Chennai against a background of an Industrial belt, it extends over 14 acres. V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai aspires to reach out to the youth of the community, to enhance their skills for futuristic technological developments and in grooming them into resourceful citizens to achieve “Excellence in Engineering”.
V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai is self financed and affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu and recognized by All India Council for Technical Education. Set in salubrious surroundings, the college offers technical education at the Diploma Level. V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai is committed to uplift the youth of the community through quality training, technical consultancy and other related services. The year 2007 marked the 25th Anniversary of the College and this milestone was celebrated in a grand manner. His Excellency Humble Shri. Surjith Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu graced the function.

Apart from providing the best environment for imbibing academic knowledge, V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai also considers vital, the need to create an atmosphere for regularly apprising the students of the latest developments in technology. Encouraging and training them to participate in seminars, symposiums, workshops, competitions is a part of the routine task. Organizing programmes such as paper presentations for participation of students from various polytechnics is a regular feature every year. Facilitators and experts in different fields are invited to interact with students and thereby management skills such as leadership; effective communication, time management etc are regularly imparted. Essentials of Yoga and Meditation are also imparted to them.
The National Service Scheme was introduced in V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai in the year 1987 with the objective of developing the personality of students through community service. There are presently two units each comprising 100 volunteers. Seminars and workshops on the current social issues such as Aids awareness, Rainwater harvesting, Drug abuse etc., are held on the campus. Regular activities such as temple cleaning, rendering a helping hand to the police for traffic management and special activities such as a 10 day camp at the adopted village, organizing health checkup camp, blood donation camp, imparting vocational training to youth and fine arts to women are carried out every year.

We have also hosted tournaments under IPAA. When young people have access to physical education and participate in sports, they can build up their health and self esteem. Sports and games shape the character of an individual. Ideals of team work and tolerance, leadership qualities, capacity to take swift and right decisions are inculcated. Keeping this in mind we encourage V Ramakrishna Polytechnic College - Chennai students to participate in different sports and games. Ball badminton, one of the oldest games known to the world of sports and which has its origin in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu is a popular game in northern part of Chennai. An annual ball badminton open tournament is being organized for the past 13 years by the institution. A large number of schools and colleges participate in this event.
