Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – Tarn Taran was established in 1970. Sant Baba Tara Singh Ji was the founder patron of this college. Baba ji established this college with the active co-operation of the people of this area. The college has made a significant progress in academic and other fields since then. The contribution of Sant Baba Tara Singh Ji is also equally important in other fields of life. The hymn exhorts us to do righteous deeds fearlessly in our society and be victorious with determination. The vision and objectives for which the Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – Tarn Taran was established have always served as a light-house for all the decisions and activities undertaken for the development of the college. They want to impart education according to the syllabi of the University, to carry out directives & directions of the U.G.C., D.P.1. (Colleges) Punjab and the University, to lay stress on moral and cultural activities, and to make students aware of the teachings of Sikhism according to Sri Guru Granth Sahib and encourage them to live according to the Sikh tenets. .

Three powerful generators have been installed to supply uninterrupted power to the whole Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – Tarn Taran. Concessions to the deserving and intelligent students are also granted. The college has a fleet of twelve buses for the commutation of its students. The bus facility is available for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Patti, Valtoha, Khemkarn, Bhikhiwind, Chhabal, Sabhra, Goindwal Sahib, Fatehabad, Chohla Sahib, Moga, Zira, Makhu and Harike routes. Separate bus facility is available for girl students. .
Every year, the religious ceremony of Bhog of Sri Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is observed to mark a holy beginning of the academic session. A cultural programme incorporating inters Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – Tarn Taran competition is held in the last week of October or in the first week of November. The Sports Day (Annual Athletic Meet) is organized in February. Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution (Sports & Academic) functions are held in the last week of February. Various colorful cultural items are presented in these functions. Seminars and guest lectures by subject experts are also held during the session. It has adequate infrastructural facilities to maintain high academic standards. In fact the infrastructure of the college is quite substantial. It includes Arts Block, Computer Science Block, Commerce Block, Science Block, Post Graduate Block, Administrative Block housing Principal’s Office & Office of the Managing Committee. Besides 40 class rooms, there are four air conditioned Computer Labs furnished with 80 computer systems, one new Computer Lab with 40 Computers is under construction, 3 Physics Labs, 2 Chemistry Labs, 1 Home Science Lab, 1 language Lab, 1 Heritage Hall, 1 Seminar Room equipped with multimedia projector, 4 staff rooms, 1 separate news paper reading room for boys, 1 common room for girls, and 3 generator rooms. All class rooms of Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College – Tarn Taran are equipped with modern furniture, black boards, proper lighting etc. The college has a fleet of 12 buses plying on various routes for commutation of students. S. Dharam Singh Pannu, now a resident of Canada, took the initiative for further growth of the college and created Foreigner’s Development Board with his associates. With liberal financial assistance by the board, the college has recently constructed Baba Gurdit Singh Kamagata Maru Science Block. .

Our college library has recently been expanded to accommodate more books and more students. The library has nearly 16,520 books on various subjects including many reference and general books.
