Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane was founded in the year 1983, by Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM), Thane a public education trust. Our Visionary, Late Dr. V.N. Bedekar is one of the founder members of this institute. Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane has successfully and efficiently churned out skilled technicians from time to time. It is situated on 13.5 acres of creek land named 'Jnanadweepa' donated by the Government of Maharashtra along with other institutes of Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane.
Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The institute offers seven diploma courses, viz. Chemical Engineering, Electrical Power System, Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, and Medical Electronics. The first four diploma programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.
Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane has contributed to the development of learning resources and revision of semester pattern curriculum under the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education Institute Partnership Project (MIPP). We are proud to record that ours is the first Self Financing Polytechnic in the Mumbai Sub Region to receive Accreditation to four eligible diploma programmes by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi. For a period of Three year w.e.f. 19th March 2004. The Renewal Proposal is under active consideration of NBA New Delhi.

Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane conducts its regular activities in four buildings in a sprawling area of over 9800 sqm. This is quite evidential for sincere approach towards the provision of skilled hands to the relevant requirements of industries. Since inception in 1983 and subsequent recognition by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the institute has grown firmly in leaps and bounds.
Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane library totally we have 2354 number of books. We have books mainly in Computer, Electronics and Instrumentation. And also we have books on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Civil, Mechanical, Management etc. Library will be kept open from 10 AM to 5.45 PM. Students and staff members have free access to all books and magazines. In our library we subscribe totally twenty magazines including dailies. We have 1400 volumes on Electronics, 1800 volumes on Computer and 963 volumes on Instrumentation. Our library is a learning resource centre in which we have audio-visual aids like multimedia projector, over head projector, TV, VCD player etc. which makes our learning in an efficient manner.
Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane provide hostel facility. Hostel accommodation is available separately for both for girls and boys. At present 70 girls and 25 boys students are staying in the hostel and vegetarian mess is being run on dividing system and the present daily rate Rs. 25/- in addition to the lodging charge. Our management is very interested in promoting the hostel facilities. Free food and Accommodation in the hostel is provided to some poor students.
Facilities for indoor and outdoor games are available in Vidya Prasarak Mandals Polytechnic - Thane. This polytechnic is a member of Inter Polytechnic Athletic Association and is sending teams for tournaments. There is a N.S.S. unit functioning in this polytechnic. Participation in N.S.S. by the student is optional and all the medically fit students can join in N.S.S. There is a Y.R.C unit functioning in this Polytechnic College. All the students can join in Y.R.C.
