Alex Chernov is an Australian Barrister Judge. He was born on 12 May 1938 in Lithuania and migrated with his family to Salzburg, Austria. Alex Chernov is the 28th Governor of Victoria and assumed office on 8 April 2011. Alex Chernov started as a barrister in 1968 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1980. He has also served as the Chairman of the Victorian Bar (1985–86), President of the Law Council of Australia (1990–91), Vice President of LawAsia (1995–1997) etc. Alex Chernov received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1961 and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (with Honours) Degree in 1968 from the University of Melbourne.
