Alexander William Lowndes "Alex" de Waal is a British Author as well as Researcher. He was born on 22 February 1963. Alex de Waal's research mainly concerns African issues. Alex de Waal has served as the program director at the Social Science Research Council and a fellow of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at Harvard University. He was awarded a D.Phil. in social anthropology for his thesis on the 1984-85 Darfur famine in Sudan.
