Altavista was a software system that was designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. It was launched in 1995 and was created by researchers at the American based computer industry, Digital Equipment Corporation. The people associated with the creation of Altavista include Paul Flaherty, Louis Monier, Michael Burrows etc. After the rise of Google, Altavista lost ground and was purchased by Yahoo in 2003 and subsequently on July 8, 2013 AltaVista was shut down.
