Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU popularly known as HAU, is one of Asia's biggest agricultural universities, located at Hisar in the Indian state of Haryana. It is named after India's seventh Prime Minister, Choudhary Charan Singh. It is a leader in agricultural research in India and contributed significantly to Green Revolution and Whit Revolution in India in the 1960s and 1970s. It has a very large campus and has several research centres throughout the state. It won the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Award for the Best Institute in 1997.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU has a sprawling campus that is scenic and is visited by local people for morning and evening walks. There is a central campus core formed by Fletcher Bhawan, Gandhi Bhawan, Nehru Library and Indira Gandhi Auditorium, around which the other buildings and facilities are built. The university has a total land of 29.15 km².
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU keeps up its library that is called Nehru Library comprising a huge collection of books and 700 journals. Indira Gandhi Auditorium, a modern facility acting as students' activity and welfare center, badminton courts, squash courts, a synthetic track, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a large indoor gymnasium have been managed by the university. Campus Hospital is available for the university community. Shopping Centre with grocery shops, banks, post office and book stores are the common facilities at the university. The Counselling and Placement Centre is open with multifaceted development of the Students.
The Computer Centre was established in 1979. The administrative control is with the Dean, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities. The Centre is located in the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU of Basic Sciences & Humanities building with a total covered area of aprox. 10,000 sq. ft. It has seminar room, staff room, incharge’s room, software development lab, server and switch room, Network Lab, Teaching lab etc. The Computer Centre has, at present one MICRO32 Unix machine, around 60 P-IV PCs and different kinds of printers for the use of faculty and students as well as for its staff. Two Sun Ultra 450 servers, three X235 IBM servers running Solaris operating system are being used for internet connectivity.
The network at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU uses gigabit backbone connections between the Switches and Fast Ethernet connection to the network nodes providing very high speed links. The network offers an excellent response time and has been ensured for availability and reliability. Redundant links have been used to minimize network downtime. Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU has a 50 bed well equipped hospital at the main campus at Hisar and Dispensaries at three outstations -. College of Agriculture, Kaul, Regional Research Station, Bawal and Regional Research Station, Karnal. The Medical Services are provided to the students, employees and their dependents, participants from Army and other institutions in trainig and refresher courses offered by the University from time to time, the staff of Haryana Remote Sensing Centre, Haryana State Tissue Culture Laboratory and ICAR staff posted at CCS HAU Campus. Causalty and Ambulance service is run round the clock. Three special clinics - Immunization Clinic and well baby clinic, Ante-natal clinic and TB clinic - are run once a week.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU has an Engineering Unit headed by the Estate Officer-cum- Superintending Engineer with Architect, XEN’s, SDEs, Jes, Design Cell along with supporting staff. This Unit has provided excellent physical facilities for teaching, research and extension at Hisar Campus and all District Headquarters/ research stations. Presently the Engineering Unit is engaged in massive renovation and upgradation of its facilities i.e. academic buildings and hostels etc. through one time catch up grant provided by the ICAR which will not only increase the life of buildings but will also result in improved working & living environment.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU, Hisar has well equipped laboratories in each area of learning. Modern facilities like DNA Sequencer, UV-trans illuminator, PCR, FT-IR, Gene Gun, Gene Pulser, Electron Microscope, Submarine Electrophoresis Units, Inductivity coupled Plasma Spectrometer, X-ray differaction, HPLCs, GLCs etc. are presently available. The university continued to focus its basic research efforts and therefore, in addition to required laboratory support, facilities of screen house, green house and transgenic green house are also available.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University-CCSHAU offers Undergraduate, B Sc (Hons) / B Tech / B V Sc & AH and Postgraduate programs, M Sc, MBA, M Tech and M V Science in most of its faculty departments. Doctoral program is also offered in several departments. The programs have been structured on the professional way seeing the need of the time and its people. Admission to the undergraduate programs is held (except B Sc Home Science) through a Common Entrance Test. The university publishes the largest number of research papers among agricultural universities in India. The university has an extensive system of research facilities spread throughout the state of Haryana.
