Devaswom Board College – Kollam was established by the Hon. Travancore Devaswom Board in the year 1964. It was the fulfillment of the dreams and aspirations of the late Kumpalathu Sanku Pillai, the founder personality. It stands unique as an institution of excellence in higher education in Sasthamcotta, a rural area of Kollam district in Kerala. This temple of higher education, situated in a landscape surrounded by the fresh-water lake and blessed and protected by Lord Dharma Sastha, lends an aura of grace congenial for higher learning. Having served the masses for more than four decades, the college still remains to be the only institution offering a benign platform for higher learning catering to the demands of the socially and economically weak community. Devaswom Board College – Kollam is situated at Sasthamcotta, Kollam, Kerala. Devaswom Board College – Kollam that started functioning as a junior college was upgraded after two years. Since then various courses were started at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The college offers three year undergraduate programmes of six semester duration in 13 core courses and six postgraduate courses of four semester duration. The college provides facility for higher studies to more than 2000 students.
Devaswom Board College – Kollam celebrated its Silver Jubilee during the academic year 1989-90. The strength of the teaching staff is 87 and that of the nonteaching staff is 46. Devaswom Board College – Kollam was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of the UGC with a B++ grade. Dr. K. Mohana Kumar is the Principal of the college. The eminent dramatist and scholar Prof.G. Sankara Pillai is the founder Head of the Department of Malayalam of the college. The famous cine artist late Bharat Murali , Pravasi Bharatiya Samman recepient Padmasree Dr. Ravi Pillai etc. are alumni of this college.

Besides books on different subjects, the library provides wide range of reading materials including international and national research journals, magazines, general periodicals and dailies. Students and teachers of the science departments are members of this forum. There is an excecutive committee which consists of members including students , teachers and nonteaching staff. This forum conducts seminars ,exhibitions and quiz competitions in the campus. At Devaswom Board College – Kollam A Staff club was constituted in the campus for coordinating various welfare activities of the teaching and non teaching staff .
