Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur was established in the year 1983-84. It is situated at G.T. Road near Nauwa bagh on Kanpur-Allahabad national highway-2. Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur is well connected by road and railways. The distance of institute by road from Kanpur city is 73 kms and from the Allahabad city 122 Kms. Travel can also be made by the train too. The Fatehpur railway station is situated between Kanpur and Allahabad on New Delhi-Howrah route. The distance of the institute from railway station is about 8 Kms. and from bus stand is about 6 Kms.
Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur was established with two disciplines i.e. 3 Years diploma in Civil Engineering and Electronics Engineering. The diploma in Mechanical Engineering (specialization in Production Engg.) was started in the year 1994. Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur is affiliated from the Board of Technical Education, U.P., Lucknow and all running courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute is spread on a green lush's area of 18.5 acres. Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur has an academic block, class rooms, drawing halls, a workshop, NCC block, faculty and staff accommodation, a hostel building for the 90 students is available in the institute campus. Various labs for Civil, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering were also established.

The library has books, journals, transparencies, learning packages, models, lab manuals and video programs etc. To keep the students for practical skills, Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur has relevant labs and shops as per approved curriculum of BTE, UP, Lucknow. The post of computer programmer is sanctioned to trained the students.
There is also a NSS cell in Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur. The main Function of this cell is to organize a camp in rural areas by the NSS volunteers to aware the rural people about various problems like social, sanitation, education, dowry etc. Every Institute provides games facilities for the students to keep fit and physically strong. In Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur games like Badminton, Table Tennis, and Volley Ball etc. is available. To conduct these games activities, the Institute has a playground and courts.
For more effective teaching learning process for the students LRUC is available in Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur. The main objective of this center is to keep touch with various new aspects related subjects through Video cassettes, OHP, etc. This Cell comprise of 1 platoon Engineer Company which is managed by the 1 UP Composite Technical Regiment, MNNIT Campus, Allahabad. The cell started its functioning from July 2004. From This cell, the students can get NCC ‘B’ and NCC ‘C’ certificates.
Government Polytechnic - Fatehpur provides placement facility. The main function of the cell is to place the pass out students in reputed organizations link BNSL, BHEL, Railways, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, HCC, CSC Noida, etc. In past 3 Years in various Organizations the students has placed. Several Students have been selected for their higher studies in various Engineering Colleges.
