Gunupur College - Rayagada started functioning on 2nd July 1973, thanks to the benevolence and sacrifice shown by the local people. We have nothing to offer them in response, for their magnanimity, not even words of thanks. They would have sounded hallow, cheap and out of place. Such people are the hopes of humanity. The college was affiliated to Berhampur University in August 1974.
Gunupur College - Rayagada is located at the centre of Gunupur town on a site gifted by Sri Narasingha Goudo of Allada and Sri Laxmi Narayan Patro of Srijholi. The college is nestled in the shade of Pragnya Hills. Below it stretches the vast undulating plain and the Vamsadhara River curls its way to hug the land like a silver girdle. The embellished elegance of the place begins to weave a spell and the wild lonesomeness imparts a piercing effect a calming experience. The academic atmosphere is further heightened with the symphony of the ringing bells of lord Shiva and the radiant light that emits from the lamps of Bhavani temple. The earth colors itself according to seasons and the air is alive with fresh exotic smells. The Sephali and Aruna trees flap their fronds and rustle with the passing wind. The serene, calm natural scenery around the college makes one peep into what is integral to life.
Gunupur College - Rayagada crest contains the motto "tama soma Jyotirgamaya" meaning "Leasd me from darkness to light". The temple at the centre of the crest symbolizes the ancent glory of Buddjism at "Jagamanda", a village fourteen miles north to GUNUPUR. The lamp and the book at the base stand as the eternal symbols of knowledge and light. The sixty four leaves around the crest symbolize "Chatursasthi Kalas". The name of the college is inscribed in English in the upper circle of the crest.
The aim of Gunupur College - Rayagada is to impart all-round education, to develop the potentialities of young men and women and help all those engaged in pursuit of truth and knowledge, keeping in view the Intellectual, Physical and Spiritual values. To inculcate the sense of Discipline, Social responsibility and Community service in the youth and also bring home to them the dignity of labor. Gunupur College - Rayagada aim is to provide the society with the right kind of leadership, men and women trained in various spheres who are competent to tackle the problems in life and make them worthy citizens of our community and country. College provides Bachelor Degree to the Gunupur College - Rayagada students.
The Library of Gunupur College - Rayagada possesses a good number of collection of Books, periodicals, Newspapers, Magazines & book materials like Maps, Globes, Linguaphone , Records etc. arranged subject wise and the reference section has been arranged separately. The Library membership and facilities are extended to all the bonafide students and staff. Access into the Library and books shelves are open to staff and Students during prescribed time.
Gunupur College - Rayagada Application for admission into the Hostel shall be made to the principal at the time of admission. Preference for admission into the hostel will be given to the SC/ST students coming from distant places. Admission to the Hostel is made a fresh every year. As a result old boarders shall have to apply for admission, if they want. Local students and casual students are not eligible for admission to the hostel. The basis for admission into the hostel is purely at the discretion of the Principal.
Gunupur College - Rayagada provides two common rooms one for the Boys and another for Girls students of the college for healthy recreation and personal contact among the students. There is provision for a few indoor games for each common room. Newspapers and Journals in Oriya, Telugu and English are also placed in the common rooms for the use of the students. Color T.V. sets are provided to the students in common rooms for viewing of News & U.G.C sponsored programmes. Two peons are attached to the common rooms to attend and to see small needs of the students. The principal nominates two members among the staff to remain in charge of the common room. Two student Secretaries and two Assistant Secretaries (men and women) are to be elected among the students.
Gunupur College - Rayagada publishes college magazine annually. The aim of the magazine is to encourage and develop the original literary expression and thoughts of the students. It will be covered with the articles from the students and the staff of the college in different languages like English, Oriya Telugu, and Hindi etc. The magazine will be edited by a board of members of the staff nominated by the Principal as publisher.
