Yadava College - Madurai was established in the year 1969. The Yadava Kalvi Nidhi was established by a few leading service minded Yadava Community people in the year 1962. The aim of the fund was to award scholarship and supply books to the deserving Yadava students. Soon the importance of higher education for the socially and educationally backward Yadava Community people was felt which led to the establishment of Yadava College - Madurai. The management constituted by the elected members of the general body since 1971 administers the college. Yadava College - Madurai was started with two pre-university courses in a temporary building. The Tamil Nadu Government generously allotted 40 acres of land under Tiruppalai Panchayat limits in the year 1969. In the same year a hostel building was constructed. The college started functioning in the new premises from 1970-71 academic years.
Yadava College - Madurai vision and mission is to impart futuristic arts and science education of global standards to the youths of all sections of society and empowering them with scientific, humanistic and ethical outlook so to improve the quality of life of the human race. To provide quality higher education and research facilities to the youths belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society cutting across barriers of caste, community and religion so as to mould them intellectually as sound, socially responsible and ethically strong citizens.

Our college library is functioning in a separate building and possesses all modern facilities, which fulfills the need of the students in the latest developments in different areas of study. The library is also equipped with Internet browsing centre, Intranet facility, talking book library for visually challenged students, audio-visual center, reprography facility, digital library with educational CDs, e-Books, e-Journals, separate reading room for the research scholars and the teachers, reference section, back volumes section, career corner, online public access catalogue and UGC-Inflibnet e-resources. All students of Yadava College are members of this library.
Yadava College - Madurai Volley ball team won the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘A’ zone championship for the sixteenth time. Again it has won the Madurai Kamaraj University volley Ball championship beating ANJA college, Sivakasi, G.T.N. college, Dindigul and in the finals, Madura college, Madurai and retained both the Kaleeswari College Trophy and Muthaiah Ambalam Trophy. Four of our college volley ball players, A.Retheesh II B.Sc. (Zoo), A.A. Jishad I B.A. (His.),P.R. Siraj I B.A. (His) and B. Jegadeesh I B.A. (His) were selected to represent M.K.Univeristy in the inter university volley ball championship held at Kannur University, Kerala.
Yadava College - Madurai provides hostel facility. The hostels are administered by the Warden (The Principal), the Deputy Warden and the Sub Wardens. There are 474 boys and 316 girls residing in both the hostels. To enhance the physical fitness of the students we have a health club and hundreds of our students are using the equipments. We have a six stationed multi gym and one vibrator along with other equipments. Various faculty members of Yadava College - Madurai offer consultancy services in the following expert areas free of cost. Yadava College - Madurai has dedicated faculty members which most of them are committed to fulfill societal needs. The College cultivates community orientation that prompts the teachers to share their expertise with needy individuals or an organization.
Extension activities of Yadava College - Madurai are integrated with our academic curriculum for which 2 credits are awarded. The college promotes network with neighborhood communities through organizing awareness programmes on HIV, AIDS, Insurance, Small Savings, Health and Hygiene, Human Rights, Dowry harassment, Women’s health etc. Adoption of nearby villages, formation of Self Help Groups, Imparting training for self – employment, assisting the villages to avail loan from Nationalized banks for cattle breeding, establishing 2 computer centers to two villages for total computer literacy, training the village women to develop their skill on embroidering, sewing, juice making, papadam making are some of the significant extension activities of Yadava College - Madurai. Yadava College - Madurai provides Certificate, Diploma, bachelor Degree and Master Degree program to the students.
Yadava College - Madurai provides placement facility. Placement cell is very active and it provides placement guidance, arranges soft skill programmes and conducts campus interviews. Since 2005 till the end of February 2010, 425 students have been placed. Apart from this, the months of March and April 2010 have been tremendous for placement since 162 students have been placed in reputed companies. The academic year 2009-10 has seen 223 students getting placed. In addition to the periodic On Campus interviews, students are motivated and prepared for off campus interviews also. As part of the curriculum, communication and soft skill papers are offered to all the students as mandatory papers. This helps them to be efficient in communication skills and enables them fare well in interviews.
