Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Aligarh was established as SRC in Feb. 2006 and upgraded as Regional Centre on 18 Jan. 2008. Regional Centre Aligarh has been given jurisdiction of 14 Districts of Uttar Pradesh namely Aligarh, Agra, Budaun, Bulandshahar, Etah, Etawah, Firozabad, J.P. Nagar, Kashiram Nagar (Kasganj), Mahamaya nagar (Hathras), Mainpuri, Mathura, Moradabad and Rampur. The total area of this part is 43714 sq. k.m., population is 32268732 (As per 2001 Census) and literacy rate is 51.7 percent.
Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU Aligarh is located premises at Marries Road in the heart of Aligarh City. It is well-connected from all parts of the region at a distance of around 2 Kms located north of Aligarh Junction. Aligarh town is connected from all parts of the state of Uttar Pradesh by bus and train. The town is a hub of education with Aligarh Muslim University as a premier educational centre.
